Position: Lead Piping Engineer
Qualification: B.E/B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering)
Experience Level: 10+ years
Overview: We are seeking an experienced Senior Piping Engineer to join our team. As a Senior Piping Engineer, you will play a key role in overseeing and executing piping design engineering activities in the fertilizer, petrochemical, and oil and gas plants industry. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.E/B.Tech.), a minimum of 10 years of industry experience, and a strong proficiency in basic and detailed piping design engineering activities. You should have in-depth knowledge of piping materials, codes and standards, statutory approval drawings/documentation, and piping stress analysis. Additionally, experience in guiding and training a team, working with CAD tools such as E3D, SP3D/PDMS, PDS, Caesar II, MicroStation, and AutoCAD, as well as experience in Engineering Construction or QA/QC, are highly desirable.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise a team of piping engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and support.
- Oversee and execute basic and detailed piping design engineering activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards.
- Conduct piping material selection and specification, considering project requirements and industry best practices.
- Review and approve piping design drawings, including layouts, isometrics, and support drawings.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements for piping design.
- Perform piping stress analysis using software tools such as Caesar II to ensure system integrity and safety.
- Guide and train junior engineers and designers, fostering their professional development.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to coordinate piping design activities and resolve design conflicts.
- Review and evaluate contractor/vendor proposals related to piping systems and provide technical recommendations.
- Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, and hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies.
- Prepare and review technical specifications, data sheets, and material requisitions for piping components.
- Support procurement and construction teams during material procurement and installation phases.
- Provide technical assistance and resolve piping-related issues during construction, commissioning, and operation stages.
- Ensure compliance with project schedules and milestones for piping design deliverables.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, sharing lessons learned and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.E/B.Tech.).
- Minimum of 10 years of industry experience in the fertilizer, petrochemical, or oil and gas plants industry.
- Strong proficiency in basic and detailed piping design engineering activities.
- In-depth knowledge of piping materials, codes, and standards (e.g., ASME, ANSI, API) applicable to the industry.
- Experience in statutory approval drawings/documentation and piping stress analysis.
- Proven experience in guiding and training a team of engineers and designers.
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as E3D, SP3D/PDMS, PDS, Caesar II, MicroStation, and AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with Engineering Construction or QA/QC processes and requirements.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental considerations in piping design.
- Professional certifications or memberships related to piping engineering are advantageous.
